Acyclovir
Acyclovir is a guanosine analog indicated for genital herpes simplex, herpes simplex, herpes zoster shingles, recurrent herpes simplex labialis and varicella. Acyclovir is a synthetic purine nucleoside analog with inhibitory activity against herpes simplex virus types 1 (HSV-1), 2 (HSV-2), and varicella-zoster virus (VZV). Acyclovir triphosphate, a converted form of acyclovir, stops replication of herpes viral DNA by competitive inhibition of viral DNA polymerase, incorporation into and termination of the growing viral DNA chain, and inactivation of the viral DNA polymerase.
